The best rose wines to enjoy on board this summer

By | Blog Posts

There’s something about rosé that quickly transports us back to halcyon days when the weather is warmer, the days are longer and afternoons are whiled away with a cold glass of wine. Whether your summer setup is enjoyed onboard a luxury yacht or on the Athens Riviera or also even better on the cosmopolitan island of Mykonos, there’s no wine better suited to alfresco dining and awesome events.

There’s been a resurgence of rosé in recent summers with new generations discovering the joys of pink wine, we’ve even seen demand extend into frozé iced drinks and rosé ice pops. Millennials caused a rosé boom and the supermarkets have expanded their offerings as much as 15% to meet demand. As a result, we’re spoilt for choice and it’s hard to know what’s good.

One thing that needs to be cleared up is that paler isn’t always better. In fact, colour has no correlation with quality and the variation in colour comes from a number of contributing factors, the main one being the grape variety and the maceration process. If you were once stung by the vivid pink-hued rosé of the zinfandel boom, it’s time to stick your head above the parapet and experiment once again with more colourful rosés. There’s a whole world of flavours to discover in varied rosé wines and colour shouldn’t hold you back.

To that end, we’ve rounded up the best rosé wines to enjoy this summer…

Whispering Angel Rose is a blend of Grenache, Rolle, Cinsault, Syrah, and Mourvedre grapes. Strikingly pale pink in color, the aromas are fresh and fruity. On the palate, it is bone dry through the finish. The name really suits the delicate nature of this wine. That was the must-have tipple at every summer party for the last two years.
Caves d’esclans identifies vineyards, grapes and wines from château d’esclans as well as local growers to make what has reputedly become the world’s greatest rose.

This is such an elegant rose that is more similar to a white Burgundy. Garrus wine is one of the most stylish, elegant roses the wine world has to offer.
From 8-year-old Grenache vines. Seems the palest and most orange of the 28s. Slightly more savoury and more obviously garrigue-influenced than Les Clans. Lovely creamy texture and a little bit of lemon cream on the finish. Reminds me of a white burgundy in some ways. Very persistent.
This is a very unusual top quality rose from the South of France. It is made from a blend of local grapes, and it is aged in oak barrels. It is a delicate salmon pink and has complex flavours of red berries and a savoury creaminess.

One of the 9 Muses, a true pleasure for the eyes with beautiful salmon color! A.muse is light, fruity, smooth, lively and elegant.
The soil is fertile, with mixed composition ranging from sandy loam to clay loam thus offering the possibility of producing wines of exquisite quality and rich aromas. The microclimate of the region is characterized by cold winters and warm summers, while a small river called Permisos contribute to the existence of a mild continental climate.

Light peachy colour. Explosive nose with hints of white flower, strawberry, peach and citrus fruit. The aromatic mouth with flavors of grapefruit and stone fruit gives a lovely character to this wine.
For Idylle d’Achinos, three equally divided varieties are entangled in a great romance, one that is beyond time. Agiorgitiko, Syrah and Grenache Noir in equal parts, are vinified with minimal extraction in order to give a wine with the main characteristic of finesse.
French, Greek, say it the way you want. You will hardly find so much concentrated in one glass!

The alcoholic fermentation and takes place in stainless refrigerated tanks at 17°C. The colour is vivid, bright rose with cherry highlights and scnets of cherry, strawberry and flowers. Oenanthe Rose the taste complements the aromas with a nice acid sensation and velvety tannins.
The food pairing is seafood dishes, fish and white meat.

Dianthus arboreus is the scientific name for the widely known carnation or according to mythology the “flower of Zeus”. Myth has it that Zeus was envious of the lily, the flower chosen by his spouse Hera, and decided to create a flower of his own, worthy or even better than hers. So one day he cast a bolt of thunder and through the lightning and the thick smoke grew DIANTHOS… an exceptional rose made with Xinomavro grapes!

From the Ioannis Vatista Winery, which has been taken over by his much-loved daughter Maria Vatista, he brings us close to his wines again with new varieties.
Three local varieties, Mandilaria, Thrapsa and Mavroudi gave us this rose-petal color, rich in abundant red fruit and wild flower aromas, balanced rose wine. Enjoy at 10-12°C, with pasta, cheese and light red sauces.

Top six superyacht cinemas

By | Blog Posts

Even on board a superyacht in the scorching Mediterranean, there’s nothing quite like being able to sit down in luxurious comfy surroundings to enjoy a good movie. As such, it’s no surprise that today’s superyachts are more often than not kitted out with lavish cinema rooms and deck spaces for this exact purpose.

Though cinemas are becoming more common on superyachts, there are still a select few that stand out for their sheer awe or creative use of features. Below, we take a look at some of our favourites.

1. Maltese Falcon, for her sail cinema screen

The iconic Perini Navi sailing yacht, Maltese Falcon, boasts one of most impressive al-fresco cinema setups on a superyacht. A powerful projector uses not a purpose-built screen to project its image on to, but instead, Maltese Falcon’s own sails. What better canvas for a projector than one that is multi-purpose, permanent, and more than huge enough for an insanely immersive viewing experience on deck.

2. Cyan, for her outdoor cinema

With an impressive drop-down screen, a state-of-the-art entertainment system, and an extensive on-board movie library, films are experienced at their best at Cyan’s impressive outdoor cinema.

3. Jems, for her spa-pool cinema

The 44-metre Heesen superyacht, Jems, is packed throughout with some incredible audio-visual equipment, but the star of the show is its outdoor cinema. Found on the sundeck, the removable screen allows guests to enjoy a film from the relaxation of the hot tub on deck.

4. Solemar, for her sun-deck cinema

Sit back on one of many luxurious chaise longues on the expansive sun deck on board the 62m Amels-built Solemar and get a magnificent view of the three-metre custom outdoor cinema screen with HD projector. A true movie under the stars!

5. Polar Star, for her outdoor cinema

Lürssen’s 63m Polar Star provides a fantastic on-deck movie-watching experience, with ample seating, atmospheric lighting and a large, modern cinema screen. It fits the ‘entertainment’ theme of Polar Star, which also features a huge range of exciting amenities, including Yamaha Waverunners, a fully featured gym, Seabobs, and snorkelling and diving equipment.

6. Axioma, for her indoor cinema

Charter favourite Axioma, built by Dunya Yachts, is one of the most expensive yachts to charter and has an impressive, cosy indoor cinema on the lower deck. The room recreates the atmosphere of a real cinema in high-end style, with eight luxurious seats and crew gladly bringing you more popcorn that you’ll ever need or want — just like the real deal.

Axioma’s cinema is just one of the reasons why celebs love to charter her. She also has a mesmerising atrium and an iconic swimming pool, to sweeten the offering.

A message from our CEO

By | Blog Posts

We are currently in a difficult situation where none of us expected that everything would suddenly “freeze”. However, that doesn’t stop us from dreaming and being positive. We can also look at it as a good opportunity for us to evolve more.

Life is full of uncertainty. It is part of being alive. It’s something we all share together.

People cannot quit because of uncertainty. We learn from this. We adapt to that. And we move on.

We maintain a strong positive outlook hoping that the problem will be short-lived, the spread of the virus will be significantly reduced during summer and that we will again be able to provide you an abundance of positive experiences!

We keep on posting all these ideas and opportunities. From yachts, services, suggestions so you can see what is available for you to enjoy… whenever you are ready.

In the light of global precautionary measures, it is understandable that there may be concerns and questions about events or cruises, regardless of whether you are a partner, we are here to help, by supporting you and answering any questions you may have, as we closely monitor the general situation and developments.

“Maritime tourism and specifically, yachting is a separate industry where our country has all the qualities to support, even in a difficult time. A yacht can be a safe environment and is particularly versatile as you can choose less touristy places and secluded bays especially on cruises, and thus expose yourself to less danger. We are determined to ensure the safety of customers and provide the best possible service when we are back.”

For now, be safe, take all common sense safety measures for your families and companies and remember, this time we are all together in that.

See you on Mykonos!

Inside The Best Superyacht Toy Garages in the World

By | Blog Posts

Flying Fox

Superyacht toy garages can hold all types of water sports gear, from Jet Skis and submarines to motorbikes and off-roaders. We round up the best garages on board superyachts, starting with the 136 metre Flying Fox…

A cavernous garage on board Lürssen’s Flying Fox holds five tenders and a treasure trove of toys, from flyboards and foiling sufboards to Seabobs and windsurfs. There’s also a dedicated kite surf store and a dive centre that will make enthusiasts swoon. Here guests will find every bit of kit imaginable, from advanced nitrox mixing systems to full face masks and underwater scooters for those looking to explore the underwater world. Diving not your cup of tea? There’s a submarine on board that can take you down to the depths instead.

Hodor

Sitting on the top deck of the 66 metre shadow catamaran Hodor, you’ll find a Nautique ski boat, a custom Metal Shark landing craft, and a 388 Skater powerboat with with a top speed of 165 knots. But that’s not all – below there’s a whole garage full of goodies. Hodor‘s toy garage houses nine Jet Skis, two Yamaha ATVs, four Yamaha TW200 trail motorcycles and a three-person submarine.

Savannah

The garage on the award-winning 83.5 metre Feadship Savannah opens up her smooth flank to reveal a wealth of toys. In addition to her four tenders, guests will find two Yamaha stand-up Jet Skis, two Seadoo Spark Jet Skis, two Jet Surfs, four seabobs, a Laser sailing dinghy, four mountain bikes, an inflatable slide, and the list goes on. The garage also creates a sweeping platform from which to launch them.

Illusion V

With a Snuba, Jet Surf, and inflatable slide among her many toys, it’s easy to see why the 58 metre Benetti superyacht Illusion V is a charter favorite. As well as an inflatable dock for all her toys, Illusion V also boasts a Jetovator and a Flyboard, for soaring out of the water and floating serenely above it, respectively.

Andromeda

The captain calls the toy garage of this 107.4 metre Kleven superyacht a man cave and it’s no wonder why. This toy box is home to Harley-Davidsons, Ducatis, KTM off-roaders and all-terrain vehicles, ideal for on-shore exploration.

Silver Angel

The toy box on this 64.5 metre Benetti boasts a pick and mix selection of treats including Jet Skis, wakeboards and scuba kit. As if that wasn’t enough there’s also gear for kiteboarding, kneeboarding, deep-sea fishing, an even golfing thanks to a Teeit Golf machine on sun deck.

Palladium

Hate waiting for your turn on the Jet Ski? The 96 metre Blohm & Voss superyacht Palladium solves this problem with a tender garage big enough to store eight personal watercraft – enough for every guest on board should they be willing to share. Luckily she also has quarters for 34 crew so getting them out on the water takes no time at all either.

Saluzi

Another popular charter yacht, 69 metre Saluzi packs all sorts of novelties, from Sea Bobs and waterskis for speedsters to paddleboards, glass-bottom kayaks, an on-water pool and a dive centre for guests looking for a more sedate experience.

Titania

Spend hours on the water with Titania’s inflatable climbing frame, Kawasaki stand up Jet Skis, flyboard, and 12.7 metre inflatable slide. Plus, two qualified Jet Ski instructors are on hand to show you the ropes. Launched in 2006 with a refit in 2018, the 72 metre Titania is in shipshape for the coming charter season. She is currently offered for charter through Burgess.

Coronavirus: 7th Mediterranean Yacht Show at Nafplio, has been cancelled

By | Blog Posts

Unfortunately, a short time ago an official announcement was made by the Greek Yachting Association for the cancellation of the 7th Mediterranean Yacht Show 2020, follows the announcement.

In light of the rapid and negative global developments of the Coronavirus (Covid-19), the Board of Directors of the Greek Yachting Association has chosen to cancel the Mediterranean Yacht Show 2020. This decision has been made after a careful assessment of the worldwide situation. The wellbeing of our guests and associates is always of the utmost importance to us so we have decided to follow what we consider the most responsible route in respect to the event.

Apart from the sense of responsibility that the Association feels, travel and flight bans that are already in place in many countries (and may be extended) make it impossible as far as logistics are concerned. It is our hope that in the coming weeks the situation will present positive developments and that we will all be able to begin working on the recovery process from what is an unprecedented situation.

We are very disappointed about this turn of events but it is in the best interest of all and, although mass gatherings may not be advisable under the current circumstances, we would like to close with a note of optimism: chartering a superyacht was and still is one of the safest ways to travel and enjoy a vacation.

We look forward to welcoming you in 2021, with calm seas, fair winds and blue skies.

The Inside Story On The 376-Foot-Long, Hydrogen-Powered Superyacht Bill Gates Is Reportedly Buying

By | Blog Posts
Bill Gates is reportedly buying this 367-foot-long hydrogen-powered superyacht.
With the multiple media outlets reporting that Microsoft Co-Founder Bill Gates has just pledged well over $600 million to build a 376-foot-long, hydrogen-powered superyacht concept designed by Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design and Lateral Naval Architects superyacht design and construction may never be quite the same again.
It’s easy to see Bill Gates owning a yacht like this 376-foot-long hydrogen powered design from Sinot Yacht Design and Architecture.
Of course, Sinot’s 376-foot-long liquid hydrogen-powered superyacht concept AQUA received lots of attention when it was unveiled at the most recent Monaco Yacht Show. But the requirements (boundless imagination and serious computing power) for designing a “skies-the-limit-concept-superyacht” are actually quite small compared to finding a pioneering mega-billionaire who has the vision, passion, experience, courage and oh yeah, over a hundred BILLION dollars to build a hydrogen-powered superyacht that has never been built before.
Bill Gates is reportedly buying this innovative 367-foot-long hydrogen-powered superyacht of the future.
However, it looks like designer Sander Sinot may have caught lightning in a bottle. “With every project, I challenge my team and myself to surpass ourselves,” he explains. “For the development of AQUA we took inspiration from the lifestyle of a discerning, forward-looking owner, the fluid versatility of water and cutting-edge technology to combine this in a 376-foot) superyacht with a fully operational liquid hydrogen and fuel cell system that features groundbreaking in technology, as well as design and esthetics.”
Everything about the 376-foot-long yacht that Bill Gates is reportedly pledging to build is out of this world.

That sounds like Bill Gates, right?

According to advanced reports, AQUA’s power is fueled by liquefied hydrogen, stored at extremely low temperatures, in vacuum isolated tanks. The liquefied hydrogen is converted into electrical energy by Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) fuel cells, with water being the only by-product.
Here’s a rendering of the owner’s BATHROOM aboard the 376-foot long superyacht Bill Gates is reportedly buying!
The generated electrical energy is transmitted to AQUA’s switchboards, where it’s distributed to provide power for propulsion, auxiliary systems and hotel services. Large batteries buffer the generated electricity to ensure power demands are always met. And thanks to the electric propulsion, AQUA is designed to be extremely quiet underway.
“Imagine AQUA at open sea, moving water with water,” says Sander Sinot “At 17 knots with a range of 3,750 nautical miles, AQUA could be solidly at the forefront of its superyacht peers.”
It’s pretty easy to imagine Bill Gates being pretty excited by something like that, right?
And as you can see in these detailed renderings, the design innovations don’t stop in the engine room. The owner’s pavilion that occupies the front half of the upper deck, is arranged in an open-plan area of interlinked spaces, divided by finely crafted wooden screens providing intimacy and subdued lighting.
The ultimate superyacht owners lounge for Bill Gates who could be the ultimate superyacht owner.
Floor-to-ceiling windows supply amazing views and ample natural light. The owner’s bedroom section is located at the yacht’s axis and offers an endless sightline all the way up to the AQUA room at the bow. The owner’s pavilion is completed with a large bathroom, dressing room and an intimate private spa section.
The AQUA room, located at the bow, at the far end of the owner’s pavilion, offers a top-of-the-world feeling and endless views from the best position on board.
Located on AQUA’s beach deck, close to the waterline, the expansive VIP state rooms stand out by virtue of their spacious design and highly elaborate furniture. All the guest cabins are designed for openness, luxury, and comfort, providing a maximum sense of freedom in a highly detailed minimalist Japanese beach-style setting.
Τhe beach deck lounge aboard the 376-foot-long yacht that Bill Gates may be building.
The indoor health & wellness center is designed with a hydro massage room, a yoga space and workout floor and a massive, gym-wide door in the hull which opens to reveal the ocean’s surface at water level.
Situated at AQUA’s core, the circular staircase is one of the yacht’s defining features, winding down from the top deck to the lower deck where two large liquefied hydrogen tanks reveal their industrial-strength structure behind a giant façade of strengthened glass.
The ventral staircase aboard hydrogen-powered Aqua designed by Sinot Yacht Design & Architecture
Meanwhile, the distinctive exterior look of the yacht was inspired by ocean swells. The hull is a sculpted, curved and intersected by the glass windows.
AQUA is configured with a five-deck set up while being able to provide those on board with the closest possible proximity to the water. The aft deck features a series of platforms all leading down towards the sea, while a large swim platform allows all AQUA passengers to enjoy the ocean.
Could Bill Gates new ultra-green hydrogen-powered superyacht represent the future of ultra-stylish superyachts?
Ahhhh. Bill Gates may be building the ultimate superyacht.
And can you think of a more appropriate guy to push innovative superyacht design and construction into the stratosphere?
Stay tuned for much more.

Top 6 destinations for a luxury superyacht party

By | Blog Posts, Uncategorized

Nothing says luxury like an event hosted on board a superyacht. In recent years, these events have become more popular as people look to rub shoulders with the rich and famous in some of the world’s most stunning locations.

So you’ve started to think about partying on board a superyacht: Will it be themed? What food and drink will be served? Who’s on the guest list?

These are all important questions to ensure you get the most out of your yacht event, but arguably the most important factor in the mood and ambience of the event is where it will be.

From the U.S.A’s tropical paradise of Miami, Florida, to the classic luxury of the French Riviera, see our list of top luxury yacht party destinations below:

  1. Monaco

Monaco is well known as a party hub on the French Riviera. The Monaco Grand Prix, along with the Cannes Film Festival further down the coast attracts celebrities and their entourages throughout the month of May. It doesn’t stop there though – the weather is beautiful for months and Monaco remains a thriving party destination well into late summer. If you’re looking for entertainment for your yacht party, the French Riviera is a great place to book some of the world’s greatest artists. Port Hercules is the place to berth in Monaco for a glamorous party atmosphere. This is a great place to look out for celebrities, and there are numerous companies nearby to help you organize an amazing yacht party.

    Where to berth: Port Hercule
    Maximum LOA 120M
    Max draft 5-30M

  2. Ibiza

Ibiza has been synonymous with summer Mediterranean partying since shortly after it’s a first modern club “Pacha” started filling with revelers in the early ‘70s. More than forty years later the island has not lost its party credentials, although the choice – and levels of extravagance – have certainly increased.

Ibiza is perfect for a no-holds-barred superyacht party, and for a little bit of peace and quiet, Formentera, the Balearics’ smallest sibling, is a short hop to the south.

    Where to berth: Ibiza Magna
    Maximum LOA 60M
    Max draft 10M

  3. Mykonos

Mykonos is one of Greece’s most tourist-heavy islands and one that has become a hub for those looking for fun in the sun. In the middle of the stunning blue waters of the Aegean, this Cycladic party island has more to offer than you might expect and is flanked by smaller islands rich in history and culture.

    Where to berth: Old port
    Maximum LOA 60M
    Max draft 7M

  4. Montenegro

Montenegro has regained its reputation as a superyacht party hotspot and has even been dubbed ‘the next Monaco for yacht charters’.

The largest marina – Porto Montenegro – looks out over the stunning Bay of Kotor towards the Adriatic Sea and Italy, and is known for luxury accommodation and services, as well as its glamorous high-end yacht parties in late Summer. Since opening in 2009, this marina has been one of the most sought after superyacht destinations in the Mediterranean.

The full service marina has a range of sporting facilities, bars, clubs and even a Naval Heritage Museum, but the marina really comes alive at night when the berthed superyachts become some of the most luxurious party venues in the World.

If you’re looking to host a superyacht party with a bit more panache and sophistication than some of the other Mediterranean hotspots, Porto Montenegro is the venue for you.

    Where to berth: Montenegro
    Maximum LOA250M
    Max Draft – 12.2M

  5. Puerto Banús

Already a world-renowned party hotspot, Puerto Banús on the Costa del Sol in Spain was boosted in summer 2015 when superyacht owner and fashion designer Roberto Cavalli opened a new luxury club.

It now hosts some of the wildest yacht parties on the Spanish coast, especially for British and German expats, and is a great destination for fun and frivolity on a yacht.

Where to berth: Puerto Jose Banús
    Maximum LOA – 50M
    Max Draft – 4.5M

  6.  Miami

Miami hosts a huge array of yacht parties and is our only destination on our list outside of the Mediterranean.

With a reputation for attracting a broader range of clientele, this summer Miami Beach plays host to parties ranging from ticketed luxury events, through to a “Cannabis Networking event onboard a luxurious yacht” courtesy of Chronic Lifestyle Magazine.

The laid back tropical atmosphere of Miami Beach makes for the perfect setting for a party on board a megayacht.

Where to berth: Miami Beach Marina
    Maximium LOA – 45.7M
    Max Draft – 38.1M
